Ensconced within rolling green meadows in the idyllic English countryside is the beautiful Barn at Devon. If you’re looking for a peaceful and scenic getaway from bustling city life, this is the cottage for you. The Barn is basically the ideal English house that Cameron Diaz in the Holiday SHOULD have booked to stay in. Renovated with beautiful interiors, the house is chic yet warm with modern textures mixed with gorgeous wooden elements. The highlights include the cosy wooden bedroom with matching luxury bathrobes and open pebbled shower, the open plan kitchen with island and a stand-alone luxurious tub with views of the countryside just outside the window. When night falls, the stars are abundant and twinkling in the skies as the noises of evening slowly fade to a hushed whisper. Be sure to light some candles as well as the gas mock fireplace and spend an eve sipping wine and relaxing on the comfy sofas in the lounge.
The Cottage is around an hours drive away from some of the most scenic views along the Jurassic coast including my personal faves Old Harry Rocks and Durdle Door. In terms of restaurants, our favourites were the fresh selection of locally sourced dishes at the Pig Hotels which are near the two scenic sites. There is The Pig Hotel en route from London to the cottage and The Pig on the Beach near Old Harry Rocks.
From local farm eggs to freshly baked bread and creamy milk, the cottage comes prepared with thoughtful items that make a stay at The Barn so special. Cooking in the open plan kitchen was an absolute treat and we spent many lazy mornings listening to music and slowly sipping tea and eating freshly cooked eggs, all whilst running a bubble bath in the room next door. A short drive (or a 15 min walk) away is a little tea room and farm shop called Royal Oak Farm that boasts the best scones in Devon. The perfect place to pick up bits and bobs for breakfast as well as pop in for a classic English cream tea with the fluffiest and butteriest scones I have had in a while. My Breakfast in bed during our stay was whipped up with toasted bread, yolky farm eggs, fresh fruit as well as tea with fresh milk which all was prepared for us in our Beachspoke cottage.
